Brief

Barcaffè introduces Flora, a prestigious Rainforest Alliance-certified coffee whose production meets the highest ethical and environmental standards. It provides local producers with a fair income, preserves the biodiversity of the tropical rainforest and is packaged in aluminium-free, environmentally friendly foil, further respecting the planet—a conscious coffee with which Barcaffe wants to get the attention of conscious coffee drinkers.

Solution

Barcaffè is launching a unique sustainability project as part of the Make a Move (Premakni se) platform to launch Flora on the market. The project is based on the fact that coffee grounds are a valuable source of nutrients for plants and, as such, an excellent composting and fertilising agent. So when we launch Flora, we are not only serving consumers new coffee, we are also introducing them to FLORISTA COFFEE COMPOST - a unique, high-quality organic fertiliser made from Barcaffè Flora coffee grounds and a blend of stable, mature vermicompost.

Florista is produced under the expert supervision of the Faculty of Biotechnology

Florista coffee compost has been developed under the expert supervision of the Faculty of Biotechnology in Ljubljana, so it contains just the right ratio of coffee grounds and other ingredients to provide optimum nutrients for all plants - houseplants, vegetables, trees and shrubs.

Florista gradually affects the soil, as the release of plant-available nutrients follows the rhythm of the soil micro-organisms. It increases soil aeration, making the soil more structurally sound and able to hold water, preventing or alleviating drought. It also increases plant resistance to disease and pest attack and contains biostimulants (vitamins and plant hormone stimulants for growth, flowering and fertilisation).

As an innovative product, Florista coffee compost is a surprising conclusion to the sustainable nature of Flora coffee. It immediately catches the attention of discerning coffee drinkers and flower lovers alike. It surprises people even where they do not expect to find coffee - or fertiliser made from its sediments - and reminds them in an innovative way that the shift towards sustainability can happen not only step by step, but also cup by cup.
